About this role
The Cardiovascular Radiographer I is a health care professional utilizing specialized equipment under a qualified cardiologist's direction. Performs procedures on adult patients for accurate diagnosis and optimal treatment of congenital or acquired heart and peripheral vascular disease. Maintains maximum patient safety while employing imaging techniques and operating related equipment.
Operates and maintains radiographic, digital processing, and viewing equipment to produce high-quality images of coronary and peripheral anatomy. Acts as first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures to ensure case completeness. Applies principles of radiation safety and protection throughout all activities.
Demonstrates respect, dignity, kindness, and empathy in encounters with patients, families, visitors, and employees regardless of cultural background. Reviews pre-procedural patient assessments to communicate pertinent data to physicians and ensure appropriate imaging and safety. Assists in educating new employees and mentoring students observing in the cath lab.
Maintains thorough knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and products for accuracy and safety. Contributes to performance improvement activities through ideas, data collection, analysis, and implementing changes. Requirements
- RT licensed in the state where work is being performed
- Registered as RT by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
- CPR certification
- Greater than 2 years’ experience as RT and/or patient care experience
- Knowledge of radiation safety principles
- Familiarity with coronary and peripheral vascular imaging techniques
Responsibilities
- Operates and maintains radiographic, digital processing, and viewing equipment for high-quality images and quantitative analysis of coronary/peripheral anatomy
- Applies principles of radiation safety and protection
- Acts as first assistant during diagnostic and therapeutic catheterization procedures to assure completeness of case
- Maintains thorough knowledge in the use of diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and products
- Reviews pre-procedural patient assessment to obtain information, communicate data to MD, and ensure imaging and patient safety
- Assists in education of new employees, mentors students and healthcare professionals in the cath lab
- Assists in performance improvement activities including data collection, analysis, and implementing change
