About this role

The Cardiovascular Tech RCIS assists with technical aspects of invasive cardiovascular procedures under the direction of the supervisor and physician. This role involves preparing patients and labs for procedures while ensuring sterile technique and patient safety.

Day-to-day responsibilities include scrubbing, monitoring, and circulating during diagnostic and interventional procedures, interpreting dysrhythmias and EKGs, and operating physiologic recorders and imaging equipment. The tech also removes arterial or venous sheaths post-procedure and maintains hemostasis.

Requirements

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree with science emphasis or commensurate healthcare experience
  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • RCIS certified within six months of date of hire
  • ARRT and Texas RT(R) required in lieu of RCIS
  • Knowledge of medications and dosages used in cath lab procedures
  • Theoretical knowledge of invasive cardiovascular procedures

Responsibilities

  • Assist physician as a monitor tech during procedures by interpreting dysrhythmias and EKGs and operating physiologic recorder
  • Assist physician as a scrub tech and operate imaging equipment under direction of physician
  • Assist as a circulator by monitoring patient status, handing supplies, and operating imaging equipment
  • Prepare lab for procedure by setting up and maintaining sterile technique
  • Prepare patient for procedure by shaving, prepping, and marking arterial pulses
  • Post-procedure, remove arterial or venous sheath, maintain hemostasis, and monitor patient status
  • Clean and stock cath lab, and order supplies with effective inventory control
  • Assist in teaching and orientation of students and new staff
