About this role

Competently operates magnetic resonance (MR) equipment to perform basic to advanced diagnostic procedures. Handles musculoskeletal, neurological, orthopedic imaging, arthrogram, neurological angiography, body imaging, small joint imaging, angiography, and breast MRI. Ensures accurate imaging while adhering to safety protocols.

Obtains medical history from patients, compares requisitions to physician orders, and prepares and administers contrast media under physician direction. Positions patients, selects proper scanning factors, and adjusts to attain appropriate images. Provides magnet protection and safety per regulatory agencies.

Post-processes images, labels them with patient name, MRU number, and scan position. Maintains records per regulatory agencies and enters data into radiology information system. Documents billing codes for accurate patient charges.

Identifies equipment issues, performs quality assurance tests and calibrations, and reports malfunctions. Serves as technical resource, role model, and preceptor for students and staff. Assists with accreditation efforts and provides age-appropriate patient care.

Requirements

  • Registered Technologist (RT) registration issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) registration and certification issued by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 2 years
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) within 6 months
  • Advanced training beyond High School that includes the completion of an accredited or approved program in Radiologic Technology
  • No experience required
  • Knowledge of cross sectional anatomy and magnetic safety
  • Competent in IV and venipuncture (if required by facility)

  • Positions patient and selects proper scanning factors, adjusts factors to attain appropriate images, and provides magnet protection and safety
  • Post-processes images as directed and accurately identifies and labels images
  • Maintains records in accordance with regulatory agencies and documents billing codes
  • Identifies equipment performance issues and performs quality assurance tests and calibration procedures
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff
  • Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties utilizing proper technique
