About this role

The MRI Technologist 1 performs intricate procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of radiographic equipment to obtain the highest quality diagnostic images. Independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative are essential, along with responsibility for designated areas, procedures and equipment. This role supports physicians, radiologic technologists, and supervisors in identifying abnormalities for proper diagnosis.

Coordinates scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures while verifying patient ID by checking name and date of birth on electronic medical record and wristband. Always obtains necessary consents and education before performing specialized tasks with MRI scanners using age-appropriate standards. Integrates diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history and medical records to adapt exams as necessary.

Assists radiologists and PhDs in developing new protocols unique to the facility and supports research initiatives and protocol development. Helps with education and training of new physicians and demonstrates equipment for site visits by physicians and administrators. Works under the direction/supervision of a radiologist in a collaborative radiology department environment.

Adheres to MRI protocols and regulatory guidelines including Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA to maintain high quality standards. Ensures proper aseptic technique with universal precautions and assists with positioning patients using immobilization equipment. Evaluates scans for technical quality, collates images, and transmits to PACS while safeguarding university assets.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of MRI protocols and ability to adapt exams based on patient history, medical records, and lab results
  • Familiarity with MRI safety procedures and age-appropriate standards of practice
  • Proficiency in operating MRI scanners and related equipment under radiologist supervision
  • Understanding of aseptic techniques and universal precaution guidelines
  • Ability to evaluate scans for technical quality and manage PACS transmission
  • Awareness of regulatory guidelines including Joint Commission, AHCA, ACR, FL DOH and FDA/MQSA

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures
  • Performs diagnostic imaging studies under the direction/supervision of a radiologist
  • Verifies the patient’s ID by checking their name and date of birth on electronic medical record and patient’s wristband
  • Performs specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures
  • Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high quality standards
  • Assists positioning patients in required anatomical position for MRI scans using immobilization and protective equipment
  • Assists radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IV's, and injecting contrast if applicable
  • Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality, collates processed images and transmits to PACS
