About this role
Under the direction of a Radiologist and Supervisor, performs MRI procedures on Low and High Field magnets at a technical level not requiring constant supervision of technical detail. Performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement with ingenuity and initiative to obtain image data for MRI diagnosis. Assumes responsibility for designated areas of procedures required, with scope of care including age groups from newborn to elderly.
Operate MRI equipment according to specifications including low, high and open magnets, physicians workstation, coils, computer analysis, image processing, daily QC, archiving and storage. Produce quality images consistently within department standards, including 3D reformatting, reconstruction and MRA. Diagnose processing problems and take appropriate action.
Follow good MRI safety practices according to state and federal guidelines, using special stretchers, wheelchairs, monitors, and conducting safety checks. Properly assess patient according to exam ordered with appropriate documentation, including check order, review previous films, lab values, pregnancy screen, history and MRI checklist. Knowledge of appropriate use of contrast media, consent forms, type, quantity and complications.
Maintain patient records according to department standards and provide patient education pertinent to exam being performed. Compliance in accurately utilizing RIS for order, arrive, start, complete, cancel, complications, fluoro time, drug history, repeats, complaints and transfers. Work independently and effectively with others, training new staff and students, performing non-technical duties and special projects.
Requirements
- Current ARRT licensure or certification
- High School Diploma or GED
- Graduate of accredited ARRT Program
- Certification in MR (preferred)
- Minimum two (2) years MRI experience (preferred)
- Ability to perform quality MRI procedures, venipuncture
- Basic computer skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively with others
Responsibilities

- Diagnose processing problems and take appropriate action
- Follow good MRI safety practices (i.e., special stretchers/wheelchairs/monitors, training of ancillary personnel, equipment and safety checks) according to state and federal guidelines
- Maintain patient records according to department standards
- Properly assess patient according to exam ordered with appropriate documentation (i.e. check order, review previous films, check lab values when indicated, prep, screen for possible pregnancy, appropriate history, assure MRI checklist verified, involve Imaging nurse when indicated)
- Provide patient education pertinent to exam being performed and document in patient record
- Compliance in accurately and completely utilizing RIS according to department standards (i.e., order, arrive, start, complete, cancel, record complications, fluoro time, drug history, repeats, complaints and transfers)
