About this role

The CT Tech 1 arranges patients for Computed Tomography examinations and produces CT images to aid in the diagnosis of medical problems. Prevents patient exposure to unnecessary radiation while ensuring safety through pre-established imaging protocols. Screens patients for safe administration of contrast media and utilizes departmental policy for safe equipment operation.

Provides complete pre and post education to patients and family to ease anxiety and assure cooperation. Demonstrates radiologic principles, anatomy, and pathology processes using optimal techniques and positions. Adheres to policies ensuring examinations are optimized for interpretation.

Effectively communicates with patients to obtain clinical history and informed consent, assisting physicians in exam performance. Identifies clinical problems, applies safety measures like side rails and monitoring, and reports unsafe conditions. Assists in procedures using standard protocols, isolation precautions, or sterile technique.

Maintains orderly, clean environments with supplies ready and operates equipment per manufacturer specifications. Performs daily calibrations, troubleshoots issues, and recognizes need for routine maintenance. Initially requires instruction and guidance, developing to perform under general supervision.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of radiologic principles, theory, anatomy, and pathology processes
  • Understanding of IVs, heparin locks, and central line usage for Computed Tomography
  • Ability to communicate clinical history and obtain informed consent
  • Proficiency in explaining procedures to patients and families
  • Skills in using side rails, braking mechanisms, and patient monitoring for safety
  • Competence in sterile technique, isolation precautions, and standard protocols
  • Ability to identify and resolve clinical or emergent problems during exams
