About this role
The Nuclear Medicine (NM) and Dual Mode SPECT/PET Technologist performs routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic procedures under the direction/supervision of the Radiation Safety Officer and Physician Authorized Users. This role involves assisting physicians with NM and PET/CT procedures by preparing patients and administering radiopharmaceuticals. Strict adherence to radiation safety principles is essential.
Daily tasks include preparing and positioning patients for scanning, operating nuclear medicine instruments and imaging equipment such as SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT. Technologists conduct required quality control procedures on all nuclear medicine equipment. They also manage documentation and ensure compliance with California State and Federal regulatory requirements.
Staff assist with patient care after radiopharmaceutical administration and handle safe disposal of radioactive waste. The position features variable shifts with 8-hour shifts, 8/40 AWS, weekend requirements as needed, and on-call duties. It is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement with SEIU-UHW, requiring union membership within 31 days of hire.
Hiring incentives include a $5,000 sign-on bonus, $2,500 relocation for candidates moving 100 miles or greater, and $1,000 employee referrals. Eligibility excludes current Sharp employees and recent rehires. Maintaining original FTE, department, and job title is required to retain incentives.
Requirements
- Satisfactory completion of formal training program in an AMA approved school for Nuclear Medicine technology
- Meets the requirements for the State of California and/or Federal mandated certification or equivalent
- AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS)
- Knowledge of preparation, administration, documentation, and quality control of radiopharmaceuticals
- Adherence to principles of radiation safety, Radioactive Materials License conditions, and regulatory requirements
- Ability to operate SPECT, SPECT/CT, and PET/CT imaging equipment
Responsibilities

- Ensure safe and appropriate disposal of radioactive waste
