About this role

Within a patient-centred framework, the Cardiac Sonographer performs cardiac ultrasound procedures including 2-D, Doppler, M-Mode, and supports TEE, stress echoes, and contrast procedures. This role upholds the organization's pillars of Indigenous Cultural Safety and equity.

Daily duties include receiving and completing requisitions, entering data into the diagnostic imaging system, and preparing patients for specific procedures. The sonographer observes patient safety practices while operating advanced ultrasound equipment and supports TransEsophageal Echo and stress echo procedures as needed.

The sonographer collaborates with physicians, other health care staff, and external agencies to deliver culturally safe care and demonstrates knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice and Harm Reduction approaches.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized training program in Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
  • Certified with Sonography Canada or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or certified with Sonography Canada and passed the Skills Assessment (CCSA)
  • Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course or applicable experience in IV Therapy when required by site practice
  • Demonstrated knowledge of theory and practice for Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography
  • Demonstrated knowledge and practice of safe work procedures with diagnostic cardiac sonographic equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to perform sonographic examinations in compliance with departmental standards
  • Demonstrated computer skills including effective use of a computerized client care information system
  • Demonstrated ability in CPR techniques and physical ability to perform the duties of the position

Responsibilities

  • Perform cardiac ultrasound procedures including 2-Dimensional, Doppler, M-Mode, and support TransEsophageal Echo, stress echoes, and contrast procedures
  • Receive and complete requisitions for diagnostic cardiac sonography
  • Enter relevant data and measurements into the diagnostic imaging information system
  • Prepare patients for specific cardiac ultrasound procedures
  • Observe patient safety practices while performing sonographic examinations
  • Participate on committees, teams, and approved research projects as assigned
  • Establish workload priorities in collaboration with others
