About this role

This role administers ionizing radiation for diagnostic, therapeutic, or research purposes, performing computed tomography and molecular imaging procedures. The CT Technologist acquires and analyzes data needed for diagnosis, interpretation, and interventional procedures at the request of a licensed practitioner.

Day-to-day responsibilities include independently performing or assisting with computed tomography procedures, preparing and administering medications, and documenting radiation exposure in compliance with federal and state laws. The technologist ensures correct orders, proper patient identification, and appropriate clinical history documentation while respecting confidentiality.

Work is performed in a clinical environment within Geisinger Multi-Specialty Tunkhannock, collaborating with students and other health care providers. The role requires evaluating images for positioning and technical quality, verifying archival storage, and assisting with interventional procedures as needed.

This position offers the opportunity to grow within a supportive team focused on patient safety and the ALARA principle. New graduates are welcome, and there is a clear pathway to advance to level 2 through achieving advanced certification within 24 months of hire.

Requirements

  • Certification by the American Registry of Radiology Technologist (ARRT) OR Certification by the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Certification Board (NMTCB) upon hire.
  • New graduates must obtain ARRT-R registry or NMTCB prior to first day of employment.
  • Applicants hired after March 10, 2024, must complete steps required for advancing to level 2, including advanced certification, within 24 months of hire.
  • Graduate from Specialty Training Program in Radiologic Technology (Required).
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
  • Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) or Radiography (R) certification.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures correct order is obtained, patient is properly identified and prepared for exam, and that clinical history is corroborated and appropriately documented while respecting confidentiality.
  • Utilizes appropriate imaging protocol and optimizes technical factors while maximizing patient safety, optimizing patient care, and applying principles of ALARA.
  • Preparing and/or administering medications through new or existing vascular access site as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
  • Evaluates images for proper positioning and acceptable technical quality and verifies archival storage and/or transfer of data, post processing of data if applicable.
  • Educating and monitoring students and other health care providers.
  • Assisting a licensed practitioner with interventional computed tomography procedures.
  • Performing computed tomography procedures as prescribed by a licensed practitioner.
