About this role

This position is responsible for providing quality MRI imaging services to patients at Southern Illinois Healthcare. The role involves preparing and explaining exams to patients and maintaining expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety.

Day-to-day responsibilities include performing imaging procedures based on patient assessment, physician requests, and imaging protocols. The technologist ensures MRI safety precautions for patients, families, coworkers, and anyone entering zone 3 and 4, and prepares contrast agents according to procedural guidelines.

Working within a collaborative team of technical staff, support personnel, nursing, and medical staff, the technologist promotes a team approach to positive imaging services. The role also includes participating in the education and oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in coordination with the manager or education coordinator.

The technologist is expected to take call as scheduled and complete all required in-services and competencies by their due dates. Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Radiology.
  • ARRT RT(R)(MR) – Must be MRI certified within 1 year of hire.
  • BLS certification.
  • Technical experience: 1 year.
  • Lead CT experience: 1 year.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and explain exams to patients.
  • Maintain an expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care and safety.
  • Perform imaging procedures based on assessment of the patient, request of the service, and imaging protocols.
  • Ensure MRI safety precautions for patients, families, coworkers, and any other individuals who may encounter MRI zones 3 and 4.
  • Prepare contrast agents for MRI procedures according to procedural guidelines and protocols.
  • Process exams and make them available on PACS.
  • Participate in the education and oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the manager or designated education coordinator.
  • Take call as scheduled.
