About this role

Perform diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. This role is based at UAB St. Vincent's Chilton, a trusted provider of healthcare serving Alabama for over 125 years.

Day-to-day responsibilities include setting up and adjusting all equipment, manually maneuvering transducers to perform exams, and implementing safety standards. You will perform routine and complex studies, recognizing significant structures, artifacts, pathology, and equipment limitations.

You will ensure equipment is properly functioning and report potential problems or malfunctions. Prompt submission of high-quality images and documents to PACS is essential, with attention to correct lead markers and patient data. Maintaining a clean and orderly department supports a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Within 12 months of hire or transfer: Registered as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) OR Registered as a Registered Technologist (R.T.) with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with Advanced certification in Sonography (R.T.(S)).
  • If at an Independent Diagnostic Testing Facility (IDTF): must have RDMS or ARRT with Advanced sonography certification upon hire.
  • BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 month (30 days) of hire or transfer.
  • High school diploma or equivalent with 2 years of experience, or Associate's degree, or Technical degree.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning; reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel; locks/tags out equipment if appropriate.
  • Ensures prompt submission of high-quality of all images and documents sent to PACS (image quality, correct lead markers and patient data/history).
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department to include procedure rooms, storage areas, dressing rooms, film storage area and any other areas in department.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
