About this role
UTMB Health is seeking a Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer I to join the team at the Clear Lake campus in Webster, Texas. This casual appointment role involves performing a variety of diagnostic echocardiography procedures under supervision, ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.
Day-to-day responsibilities include acquiring, recording, analyzing, and presenting patient examination data for transthoracic and stress procedures. The sonographer will also operate multiple computer systems, including hospital and cardiology information systems, and proactively respond to patient needs during exams.
This position works within a collaborative healthcare environment, adhering to established echocardiography standards and guidelines. The role emphasizes patient safety, quality improvement, and efficient use of resources, with a focus on reporting near misses and errors to improve processes.
This entry-level role offers the opportunity to develop skills in cardiac sonography within a leading academic medical center. Registry-eligible candidates are welcome and will have one year to attain certification, supporting professional growth in the field.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of a CAAHEP accredited ultrasound program.
- 0+ years of experience.
- American Heart Association BLS certification.
- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI, or registry eligible with certification attained within one year of hire.
Responsibilities
- Acquire, record, analyze, present, and charge for patient examinations, including transthoracic and stress procedures.
- Assist physicians with transesophageal procedures and maintain proper sterile techniques for inpatient sonographers.
- Operate multiple computer systems, including Hospital/Cardiology Information Systems and Office software.
- Proactively respond to patient needs and use critical thinking to observe and address patient reactions to contrast media and medications.
- Comply with job role, department, and hospital safety standards, policies, and quality initiatives.
- Report near misses and input errors promptly into the hospital patient safety reporting system.
- Care for and maintain echocardiography equipment.
- Use resources efficiently and avoid waste of supplies.
