About this role
This position performs advanced Vascular Ultrasound procedures to facilitate appropriate diagnosis and treatment of patients. The Lead Vascular Sonographer provides quality assurance assistance to the Supervisor for vascular imaging and preliminary reporting.
Day-to-day responsibilities include performing non-invasive imaging procedures, prioritizing patient scheduling, and ensuring timely completion of tests. The role also involves calculating and measuring vascular structures from procedure data to aid physicians in interpreting results and achieving a diagnosis.
Working within the Vascular Laboratories at WVU Medicine, this role supports the development of junior sonographers by providing ongoing feedback and acting as a preceptor for new hires. The Lead Sonographer also participates in education and in-service opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge.
This position offers the opportunity to provide clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the vascular lab program and its accrediting bodies. The Lead Sonographer will also evaluate and document student clinical performance, contributing to the growth of the next generation of sonographers.
Requirements
- Registered Vascular Sonographer (RVT) through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) OR Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI).
- Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
- Eight (8) years of vascular sonography experience.
- Ability to perform all non-invasive imaging procedures within established guidelines and timeframes.
- Proficiency in documenting procedures within patient charts to inform physicians that tests have been completed.
- Experience with EPIC for accurate documentation and proper billing of procedures.
Responsibilities
- Performs advanced non-invasive imaging procedures for Vascular Laboratories.
- Coordinates and prioritizes patient scheduling to ensure procedure completion in a timely fashion.
- Notifies appropriate medical staff if there are significant abnormal findings.
- Calculates and measures vascular structures from procedure data to aid the physician in interpreting results and achieving a diagnosis.
- Provides preliminary report on study performed in a timely manner and reviews it with the physician.
- Acts as a preceptor by on-boarding new sonographers with department orientation, in-service, and education.
- Supports the development of Vascular Sonographer I and II by providing ongoing feedback regarding their performance.
- Provides clinical supervision and instruction within the policies of the vascular lab program and its respective accrediting bodies.
