In day-to-day operations, the sonographer operates ultrasound equipment to capture moving 2-D or 3-D images of the heart. They assist physicians in diagnosing heart conditions and accurately record patient data and test results. They also handle administrative tasks like scheduling and cleaning.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Sonography required.
  • Two (2) to three (3) years of cardiovascular imaging experience required.
  • Advanced knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and disease.
  • Proficiency in operating ultrasound equipment using M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler flow mapping.
  • Ability to perform complex studies including stress echocardiography, dobutamine echocardiography, and transesophageal echocardiography.
  • Skill in making knowledgeable clinical assessments and judgments.
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or equivalent ARDMS certification preferred.
