This role offers the opportunity to join Northwestern Medicine as a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer, where every patient interaction makes a difference in cultivating a positive workplace. In this position, you will independently perform diagnostic maternal-fetal ultrasound examinations using two-dimensional imaging of female reproductive anatomy and fetal structures. You will review physician orders, patient history, and imaging requests to determine appropriate protocols, while operating ultrasound equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.

You will assess patients throughout procedures, provide education to reduce anxiety and promote comfort, and serve as a clinical resource to support physician diagnosis and treatment planning. Your professional judgment and care will ensure continuity through effective communication with interdisciplinary teams.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited diagnostic medical sonography program.
  • ARDMS certification in Obstetrics and Gynecology or equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for healthcare providers.
  • Knowledge of maternal-fetal medicine imaging protocols and sterile technique.
  • Ability to operate ultrasound equipment and perform quality control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic maternal-fetal ultrasound examinations in accordance with industry standards and department policies.
  • Independently perform two-dimensional ultrasound imaging of female reproductive anatomy and fetal structures with accuracy and clinical judgment.
  • Review physician orders and patient history to evaluate imaging requests and determine appropriate examination protocols.
  • Operate ultrasound equipment and accessories to produce high-quality diagnostic images while minimizing patient exposure.
  • Assess patients and provide care throughout procedures in line with departmental and age-specific standards.
  • Educate patients before, during, and after procedures using verbal and written materials to reduce anxiety and promote cooperation.
  • Serve as a clinical resource through observation and communication to support physician diagnosis and treatment planning.
  • Accurately document imaging procedures and results, and transmit completed studies to PACS using proper accession numbers.
