About this role

This per diem position focuses on performing high quality obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound examinations and procedures. You will become well trained in the use and daily maintenance of the ultrasound imaging and recording system used in the department.

Day-to-day responsibilities include setting up ultrasound and procedure equipment, positioning patients appropriately, and operating ultrasound with or without physician guidance for both OB and GYN procedures. You will generate reports on examinations and ensure they are sent to the referring physician, while also submitting billing with appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes.

This role is part of the Department of OB/GYN at GW Medical Faculty Associates, where you may demonstrate techniques and procedures to students and residents as assigned. The work environment is clinical and collaborative, with an emphasis on maternal fetal medicine experience.

This PRN opportunity offers flexibility in scheduling while allowing you to apply and maintain advanced certifications, including a required certification with the Fetal Medicine Foundation for first trimester nuchal translucency risk assessment within one year of hire.

Requirements

  • Active certification by American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in OB/GYN
  • Graduate of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program; Bachelor of Science degree or Health-Related degree desirable
  • Certification with Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) to perform first trimester nuchal translucency for risk assessment within one year of hire
  • Maintenance of required CME credits for registration with ARDMS is necessary
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an ultrasound technologist is necessary
  • Maternal fetal medicine experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Set up ultrasound and procedure equipment for gynecologic and obstetric examinations and procedures
  • Position patients appropriately and operate ultrasound with or without physician guidance as appropriate
  • Perform gynecologic ultrasound procedures including SIS
  • Perform obstetric ultrasound procedures including amniotic fluid assessment, fetal viability, limited, detailed, and complete obstetric ultrasound, biometry, fetal wellbeing assessments, fetal Doppler studies, fetal echocardiograms, CVS, amniocentesis, and first trimester screening
  • Process and label samples for laboratory submission
  • Generate reports on examinations and procedures and ensure they are sent to the referring physician
  • Submit billing for patients with appropriate codes for diagnoses and procedures
  • Perform decontamination on equipment
