About this role

This senior-level role performs diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound exams on research participants. The sonographer is responsible for the independent operation of sonography equipment and for communicating results of diagnostic and research examinations.

Day-to-day responsibilities include reviewing, training, and coaching junior-level sonographers on all processes and procedures. The role also involves performing high-quality echocardiographic exams and collaborating with cardiology staff to make accurate diagnoses of complex congenital and acquired pediatric heart abnormalities.

The position works closely with physicians, providing preliminary reports for diagnostic assessments and synthesizing research information. The sonographer assists with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects, all while maintaining strict patient confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth knowledge of concepts, practices, procedures and policies with the ability to use them in varied situations.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of cardiac and vascular anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
  • Ability to maintain strict protocols of all confidential or sensitive information.
  • Detail oriented with meticulous planning and organizational skills while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Ability to demonstrate a positive demeanor and respond to questions in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Registered Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI) or Registered Vascular Sonographer (ARDMS or CCI) – Required.
  • Ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure per Texas EO-GA-48.

Responsibilities

  • Review, train, and coach junior level Sonographers with all processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate, synthesize, and communicate diagnostic and research information to the physician.
  • Perform diagnostic cardiac and vascular ultrasound exams according to established guidelines.
  • Perform high quality echocardiographic exams and collaborate with cardiology staff to make accurate diagnoses of complex congenital and acquired pediatric heart abnormalities.
  • Provide preliminary reports for diagnostic assessments to physicians.
  • Provide optimal service to patients while respecting and demonstrating patient confidentiality.
  • Assist with research activities by collecting data and participating in research projects.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
