About this role

This role provides clinical direction for all aspects of patient care in diagnostic and interventional Cardiovascular procedures. The nurse supports the procedural team as circulator, providing moderate sedation, scrubbing with the physician, or monitoring and documenting the case.

Responsibilities include completing direct patient pre-procedure assessment for sedation, documenting findings, and gathering pertinent records such as History and Physical, lab reports, and medication records. The nurse anticipates changes and modifies care to meet patient needs while operating hospital equipment and adhering to radiation safety guidelines.

The Cath Lab features four highly specialized imaging rooms and performs Diagnostic, PCI, Peripheral, and structural heart procedures. The team functions collaboratively, communicating with SBAR tools and ensuring physicians are informed of all pertinent patient information.

This bonus-eligible position is part of Prisma Health Heart and Vascular Institute, South Carolina’s first comprehensive freestanding hospital dedicated to cardiovascular disease. The role offers ongoing competency maintenance and the opportunity to perform procedures effectively during call back.

Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Competency in providing moderate sedation and monitoring hemodynamics.
  • Ability to scrub, circulate, and monitor during cardiovascular procedures.
  • Strong understanding of diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
  • Proficiency with Epic EMR for documentation and patient records.
  • Ability to adhere to radiation safety guidelines and take appropriate action in emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Complete direct patient pre-procedure assessment for sedation and report/document findings.
  • Gather pertinent records for procedures including History and Physical, lab reports, and medication record.
  • Operate applicable hospital equipment and perform point of care testing.
  • Adhere to radiation safety guidelines and take immediate action in life-threatening emergencies.
  • Utilize SBAR communication tools to ensure physician is informed of all pertinent patient information.
  • Maintain annual departmental competencies and perform inpatient/outpatient treatment procedures.
  • Ensure patient understands and consents to procedures; explain time frames to family members.
  • Interpret and manage hemodynamic monitoring and anticipate potential issues during cases.
