About this role

This role is for a Consultant Interventional Radiologist at SEHA in Abu Dhabi, leading and supervising the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care. The post holder will diagnose, manage, and treat all patients within the specialty of interventional radiology.

Day-to-day responsibilities include conducting patient examinations, taking detailed medical histories, and ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. The consultant will lead ward rounds, manage both inpatient and outpatient cases, and develop comprehensive treatment plans including prescribing medications and therapies.

The consultant will oversee the clinical activities of junior medical staff, including specialists, GPs, and residents, and actively participate in their instruction and supervision. Multidisciplinary collaboration is key, liaising with other medical specialties and support services to ensure holistic patient care through multi-disciplinary meetings.

Participation in out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis is required, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays. Opportunities for continuous improvement include participating in clinical audits, performance management systems, and proactive risk management to foster better patient outcomes.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent degree from a recognized medical school with completion of a structured specialty training program (e.g., North American/European Board Certification, Fellowship of a Royal College, or equivalent from a DOH-approved Tier 1 or Tier 2 country)
  • A minimum of 3-7 years of post-specialty clinical experience in a recognized multidisciplinary setting
  • Eligibility for or a valid DOH (Department of Health Abu Dhabi) license to practice, including Primary Source Verification, successful DOH exam (unless exempted), and a valid Good Standing Certificate
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, strong leadership abilities, problem-solving skills, and commitment to continuous medical education (CME/CPD)
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is required; competence in other languages is a distinct asset

  • Develop comprehensive treatment plans, lead ward rounds, and manage both inpatient and outpatient cases
  • Oversee clinical activities of junior medical staff and actively participate in their instruction, guidance, and supervision
  • Liaise with other medical specialties and support services and participate in multi-disciplinary meetings
  • Participate in out-of-hours on-call coverage on a rotational basis, including evenings, nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Accurately document all relevant clinical information and comply with hospital, departmental, and DOH policies and regulatory requirements
  • Communicate clinical information to patients and families in a timely and compassionate manner and obtain informed consent for procedures
