About this role

The Kenya Red Cross Society is seeking a qualified Sonographer to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality diagnostic imaging services to both inpatients and outpatients. The role utilizes modern imaging technology including computerized X-ray machines and multi-probe ultrasound units.

In this role, you will undertake initial patient evaluation, perform diagnostic radiographs, and conduct ultrasound and Doppler examinations. You will explain procedures to patients, maintain the ultrasound equipment, and ensure images are of the best quality.

You will report to the Health Services Coordinator and liaise with doctors and medical staff to clarify ambiguous radiology requests. Radiation safety measures and equipment calibration are strictly followed to comply with government regulations and ensure patient and staff safety.

This position allows you to deliver humanitarian services in solidarity with communities and affected populations in Dadaab. You will be part of a dedicated team committed to timely and innovative service delivery.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Medical Imaging Sciences
  • Higher Diploma in Ultrasound
  • Registered with the Kenya Radiation Protection Board
  • 2 years work experience in Radiology/Ultrasound in a busy hospital
  • Familiarity with modern imaging technology including computerized X-ray machines and multi-probe ultrasound units

Responsibilities

  • Undertake initial patient evaluation, provide diagnostic radiographs, perform ultrasound and Doppler examinations.
  • Explain the ultrasound procedure to patients and answer any questions.
  • Maintain the ultrasound equipment and the procedure room.
  • Ensure radiation safety measures and protection are observed in compliance with government regulations.
  • Maintain patient records and add medical notes related to the ultrasound procedure.
  • Liaise with doctors and other medical staff to clarify ambiguous radiology requests.
  • Review patient reports to ensure accuracy before sign-off and document machine faults.
