It provides direct patient care and may administer medications within scope of practice.

Performs ultrasound examinations, tailoring exams based upon findings and most likely diagnosis. Ensures the appropriate exam based on physician's orders and patient history. Verifies and enters patient demographics while providing accurate patient education and explanation of exam.

Works in a Level 1 Trauma Center nationally ranked for academic research, quality standards, and patient experience. Operates across five hospitals and eleven clinics providing comprehensive services and medical advancement. Assists physicians with invasive procedures and coordinates equipment maintenance.

Assists with training of student sonographers, residents, and fellows. Demonstrates knowledge of life span growth and development to assess patient status per department policies. Shows human relations and effective communication skills in a dynamic healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system within 30 days of hire
  • Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an Abdomen specialty (RDMS-AB) through ARDMS, or RDMS with OB/GYN specialty, or ARRT Registration for Sonography (S)
  • Ability to perform the essential functions as outlined
  • Ability to provide care to the population served
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development
  • Ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures
  • Demonstrate human relations and effective communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the appropriate exam is performed based on physician's orders and patient history
  • Verifies and enters/selects patient demographics
  • Provides accurate and consistent patient education and explanation of exam
  • Performs ultrasound examinations, tailoring exams based upon findings and most likely diagnosis
  • Updates patient logs and submits billing
  • Ensures operation of equipment and coordinates necessary maintenance
  • Assists with training of student sonographers, residents, and fellows
  • Assists physicians with invasive procedures
