About this role

Performs ultrasonic images of the heart and great vessels to investigate a wide variety of acquired and congenital heart diseases. Works in the Cardiac Diagnostics department at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Handles variable shifts in the United States.

Conducts transthoracic, transesophageal, and stress echocardiograms of cardiac anatomy and function in adult and pediatric patients. Performs measurements and calculations using M-mode, color Doppler mapping, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral analysis. Prepares test results for review by interpreting physician.

Maintains and cleans equipment and work environment while sharing responsibility for on-call duties in the Cardiac Diagnostics Department. Alerts physician to potential life-threatening situations observed during echocardiograms. Participates in data collection for departmental quality assurance program.

Assists supervisor with implementation of in-service education programs and records patient billing information. New graduates with clinical experience or those from accredited programs gain hands-on training. Must pursue registry certification within specified timelines for professional growth.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate science degree preferred
  • RDCS or RCS certification or registry eligible preferred
  • Must attempt registry certification within 1 year and gain certification within 2 years of hire date
  • New graduate with at least 800 hours of clinical cardiac scan time or graduated from an accredited program or 1 year of on-the-job training
  • Ability to understand test procedures and verbally explain to patients
  • Ability to interact confidently on a one-to-one basis with patients of varying ages, genders, ethnicities and backgrounds
  • Manual dexterity to perform diagnostic tests and ability to lift, turn, and reposition patients

Responsibilities

  • Performs transthoracic, transesophageal and stress echocardiograms of cardiac anatomy and function in adult and pediatric patients
