About this role

The Cardiac Sonographer performs diagnostic, non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams on patients using ultrasound testing equipment to evaluate the heart. Testing modalities include Transthoracic Echocardiography, Transesophageal Echocardiography, and Cardiac Stress testing. On-Call is required.

Perform high quality diagnostic echocardiography examinations adhering to exam protocols except when deviation is clinically necessary. Prepare patients for procedures by explaining the procedure and providing instructions to obtain desired results, gain cooperation, and minimize anxiety. Administer imaging enhancement agents in accordance with department policies.

Contact referring physician for clarification prior to performing an exam if the exam order is suspected incorrect. Utilize the hospital electronic medical record to review patient information, enter preliminary reporting, and document critical findings. Complete assigned tasks in a time frame appropriate for the situation.

Adhere to standards and policies regarding safety initiatives, infection control, and protecting patient confidentiality. Demonstrate ability to perform non-invasive and invasive cardiac exams at the level of proficiency.

Requirements

  • Credentialed in echocardiography by Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) required at date of hire
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association required prior to direct patient care
  • Associates degree in applied health science field with concentration in cardiovascular technology, ultrasonography or other related study preferred
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a Cardiac Sonographer preferred
  • EPIC Electronic Health Record preferred
  • Picture archiving communication system (PACS) preferred

Responsibilities
