Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference. Provides diagnostic patient care services using diagnostic medical sonography, performing ultrasound procedures with independent judgment to differentiate between normal and pathological findings.

Identifies patients using two demographic identifiers, reviews physician orders for clinical information and contraindications. Analyzes sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information with medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Ensures imaging quality meets quality control standards including all protocol requirements.

Explains procedures to patients, greets professionally, guides to areas, and maintains comfort with blankets or pillows. Prepares rooms with supplies, maintains sanitary environments, and stocks linens while disposing of bio-hazardous materials per policy. Transports patients as needed, especially to radiology observation or emergency department.

Operates PACS system to verify studies, adds charges for procedures and supplies, and assists with outstanding charges. Complies with departmental downtime protocols and HIPAA mandates. Promotes communications, resolves scheduling conflicts, and ensures hand-off to relieving shifts.

Requirements

  • Certified sonographer with knowledge of ultrasound procedures and equipment proficiency
  • Ability to analyze sonograms and synthesize with patient history for physician communication
  • Familiarity with PACS system operations and study verification processes
  • Compliant with HIPAA mandates and departmental policies
