The Senior Cardiac Sonographer performs 2D and 3D echocardiograms with color and spectral doppler in the echo lab and at the bedside of high patient acuity, including imaging patients on ventilators, ECMO, Impella, and LVAD.

Daily responsibilities include performing stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms, assisting cardiologists with TEE, intracardiac echo, pericardiocentesis, intraoperative echo, and code coverage. The Senior Cardiac Sonographer also recognizes the need for agitated saline and contrast agents, performing IV insertion when necessary.

This role supports sonography training across multiple disciplines, including physicians, fellows, students, and new hires, cultivating a collaborative and cooperative work environment. The Senior Cardiac Sonographer ensures charges align with actual orders and tests performed for accuracy in documentation and revenue return.

Requirements

  • American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) certification in adult echocardiogram required
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required
  • 0-2 years of experience required; 3-5 years preferred
  • Clinical expertise in performing echocardiograms with outpatient and inpatient high acuity populations
  • Ability to effectively communicate with department leadership on supply and equipment needs
  • Stays abreast of specialty emerging technologies, protocols, certifications, and competencies

Responsibilities

  • Perform 2D and 3D echocardiograms with color and spectral doppler in the echo lab and at the bedside of high patient acuity
  • Perform stress echocardiograms and dobutamine stress echocardiograms
  • Assist cardiologist with TEE, intracardiac echo, pericardiocentesis, intraoperative echo and code coverage
  • Recognize the need for agitated saline and contrast agents and perform IV insertion if necessary
  • Support sonography training across multiple disciplines including physicians, fellows, students, and new hires
  • Ensure charges to patients align with actual order and test performed for accuracy in documentation and revenue return
  • Participate in process improvements related to quality, safety and regulatory goals and initiatives
  • Participate in required on-call rotation for the hospital during the week, weekends, and holidays (must arrive within 45 minutes of call activation)
