This externship offers a hands-on learning opportunity in the Interventional Radiology Tech role within the Cardiac Services department at Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center. As an extern, you will support the Cath Lab team while building foundational skills in interventional imaging and patient care.

Your day-to-day will involve assisting with patient preparation, equipment setup, and procedure room turnover under the guidance of experienced technologists. You will gain exposure to sterile technique, contrast media handling, and image acquisition in a fast-paced procedural environment.

This externship is designed for individuals currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a radiologic technology program who are seeking clinical experience in interventional radiology. It provides a direct pathway to understanding the daily operations of a high-acuity cardiac and vascular lab.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in or recent completion of an accredited radiologic technology program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds
  • Willingness to work flexible weekday hours and occasional weekends
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow sterile technique
  • Interest in pursuing a career in interventional radiology or cardiac imaging

Responsibilities

  • Assist with patient preparation and positioning for interventional radiology procedures in the Cath Lab
  • Set up and maintain sterile fields and equipment under the direction of licensed technologists
  • Handle and prepare contrast media and other supplies for imaging procedures
  • Support procedure room turnover and inventory management
  • Observe and participate in image acquisition and documentation as directed
  • Follow safety protocols for radiation protection and infection control
