About this role
This role performs the primary functions of a Registered Nurse in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of all patients in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab (CCL). The Cath Lab RN is responsible for meeting the established standards of Intensive Nursing Practice and reports to the Surgical Services Director.
Day-to-day responsibilities include coordinating and directing patient care to ensure patient needs are met and hospital policy is followed. The nurse assesses and documents the health care status of all assigned patients, completes comprehensive patient histories and physicals, and interprets heart patterns on monitors to assess changes in rhythm.
The Cath Lab RN manages assigned staff, supplies, and equipment in the unit while promoting teamwork with co-workers, physicians, and personnel from other departments. This role follows radiation safety policies as outlined by the NRC and the Hospital's Radiation Safety Committee.

Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas.
- Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and ability to identify dysrhythmias and treat appropriately based upon ACLS guidelines.
- Ability to assess and interpret patient age-specific data and provide appropriate, age-specific treatment.
- Experience in a Cath Lab, ICU, or critical care setting preferred.
- Current BLS and ACLS certification required.
- Ability to collect data by interview, observation, inspection, auscultation, and palpation.
- Knowledge of radiation safety practices as outlined by the NRC.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patient’s needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
- Assesses and documents the health care status of all assigned patients in the CCL as outlined in nursing standards.
- Completes a comprehensive patient history and physical, including patient interview, psychological and physical assessment.
- Interprets heart patterns on monitor and assesses changes in pattern, verbalizing this among members of the health care team.
- Follows radiation safety policies as outlined by the NRC and Hospital’s Radiation Safety Committee.
- Acts as patient educator, explaining procedures and answering questions prior to the procedure.
- Manages assigned staff, supplies, and equipment in the unit.
- Formulates a teaching plan for discharge based upon learning needs assessed on admission.
