About this role

Under the direction of the Radiology Director and Radiologist, the CT Technologist performs imaging procedures at a technical level that does not require constant supervision. The role demands independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis across all patient age groups.

Daily work includes operating CT and X-Ray equipment to produce quality images while utilizing the lowest possible radiation dose. The technologist explains procedures, positions patients, selects appropriate technical factors, reviews images for accuracy, and assists physicians during invasive procedures using sterile technique.

The position requires maintaining patient and personal safety through proper radiation protection, body mechanics, and use of two approved patient identifiers. Additional duties involve administering IV contrast media, performing venipuncture, and ensuring all documentation is completed accurately in PACS and the EMR system.

This role supports Decatur Morgan Hospital’s mission by delivering high-quality diagnostic imaging and willingly assisting in Radiology or other Imaging departments as needed to meet patient care demands.

Requirements

  • ARRT(R) Required, ARRT(CT) preferred
  • Graduate of an Accredited Diagnostic Imaging Program
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • BLS must be obtained during orientation period
  • Minimum of one-year clinical experience

Responsibilities

  • Produce high quality radiographs on all patient age groups under the direction of a Radiologist.
  • Explain procedures to patients, position and immobilize them, and select appropriate technical factors for specific body parts.
  • Assist Radiologist with invasive procedures by setting up rooms, practicing sterile technique, and obtaining requested images.
  • Provide radiation protection to patients and practice personal radiation safety measures while utilizing the lowest dose possible.
  • Administer IV contrast media as directed, assess patients for sensitivity, perform venipuncture, and operate power injectors.
  • Complete all exams timely in PACS and EMR, verify physician orders, and ensure all images and documentation are properly recorded.
  • Create patient CDs, verify all information is accurate, and add required notes in the system as needed.
