About this role

Performs diagnostic procedures on patients using ultrasound waves to examine tissue and body structure, providing quality images for interpretation. The registration requirement is a registered sonographer holding two or more registries appropriate for the department(s) such as ABD/OB, ABD/MSK, ABD/BR, OB/FE. This PRN float role supports sonography across multiple locations.

Sets up and adjusts equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform routine and complex studies. Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations while ensuring high-quality images are submitted to PACS. Implements safety standards and performs quality control procedures.

Works in a float capacity across WI-SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital - Madison and various SSM Health Dean Medical Group sites. Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department including procedure rooms and storage areas. Ensures equipment functions properly and reports malfunctions.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Sonography program.
  • 2 or more ARDMS or CCI registries in Abdomen, OB/GYN, Breast, Echo, or Vascular.
  • Registered sonographer holding two or more registries appropriate for the department(s).
  • Second registry must be used in primary department or secondary department 30% of the time.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near and far.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent lifting/moving of patients.

Responsibilities

  • Sets up and adjusts all equipment and manually maneuvers transducers to perform exams.
  • Implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Performs routine and complex studies and assists in a variety of imaging procedures.
  • Recognizes significant structures, artifacts, pathology and equipment limitations.
  • Ensures equipment is properly functioning and reports potential problems or equipment malfunction to appropriate personnel.
  • Ensures prompt submission of all high-quality images and documents sent to PACS.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and orderly department to include procedure rooms and storage areas.
  • Maintains compliance with regulatory agencies.
