About this role

This full-time MRI Technologist position at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital in Murphysboro, IL, is responsible for providing quality MRI imaging services. The role operates on an evening shift and requires a commitment to patient care and safety.

Day-to-day responsibilities include preparing and explaining exams to patients, performing imaging procedures based on patient assessment and protocols, and ensuring MRI safety precautions for all individuals in zones 3 and 4. The technologist also prepares contrast agents according to procedural guidelines and educates patients on MRI procedures and contrast media.

Working within a collaborative team environment, the technologist promotes a team approach to positive imaging services by interacting with technical, support, nursing, and medical staff. The role also involves participating in the education and oversight of orientees, ancillary staff, and students in collaboration with the manager or designated education coordinator.

This position offers the opportunity to maintain and expand expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology relative to imaging. The technologist is expected to complete all in-services and competencies by required dates and to take call as scheduled, contributing to continuous professional growth.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Radiology
  • ARRT RT(R)(MR) — must be MRI certified within 1 year of hire
  • BLS certification
  • 1 year of technical experience
  • 1 year of lead CT experience

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and explains exams to patients
  • Maintains expertise in anatomy, physiology and pathology relative to imaging to optimize procedures and ensure patient care/safety
  • Performs imaging procedures based on assessment of patient status, service request, and imaging protocols
  • Ensures MRI safety precautions for patients, families, co-workers, and others in MRI zone 3 and 4
  • Prepares contrast agents for MRI procedures according to procedural guidelines and protocols
  • Educates patients regarding MRI procedures and contrast media by explaining the procedure and answering questions
  • Processes exams and makes them available on PACS
  • Takes call as scheduled
