About this role

This position performs prescribed radiographic imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision, with a focus on MRI. The role requires independent judgment and initiative to competently perform a variety of technical procedures and ensure high-quality imaging results.

On a daily basis, the technologist positions patients and performs imaging procedures independently, analyzing results and identifying quality issues. They take appropriate action to resolve image quality concerns, including repositioning patients and repeating procedures as necessary, and they enter, transmit, and report scan results.

In this casual role, you will work within a supportive Radiology team at Saint Vincent Hospital, part of Allegheny Health Network. The environment emphasizes patient education and safety, with responsibilities that include reviewing patient history, preparing and administering contrast media within scope, and monitoring patient condition throughout exams.

Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree; or equivalent from a two year college or a technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent education and experience
  • American Registry Of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiography (R), or American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT), or Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) registered as an MR technologist certification required
  • If ARRT (R) is the only certification, ARRT in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MR) is required within 18 months from hire date
  • Employees hired or transferred into the MRI role after July 1, 2022 are required to maintain active MRI certifications

  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Positions patient and performs imaging procedure(s) independently
  • Analyzes results and identifies issues with the quality of imaging results, taking appropriate action to resolve image quality issues, including repositioning patient and repeating procedure
  • Enters, transmits, and reports scan results
  • Reviews patient history and physician's orders
  • Educates patient regarding procedures, equipment, and exam to ensure patient's understanding and cooperation
  • When ordered, prepares and administers contrast media and/or medications within scope of practice
  • Monitors patient condition continually and reports/responds to changes in status as appropriate
  • Prepares equipment and supplies, selects appropriate exposure factors and imaging parameters, and implements safety standards and performs appropriate quality control procedures on equipment
