Pediatrix Medical Group has an exciting opportunity for a Maternal Fetal Medicine Sonographer to join the team at a clinic in Salt Lake City, UT. The role focuses on providing diagnostic ultrasound for high-risk expectant mothers and their babies. Passion drives the care delivered to these patients.

The Sonographer works independently and collaborates with healthcare team members, including perinatologists, to deliver comprehensive care. Daily tasks include performing detailed fetal anatomical surveys for twins and triplets, acquiring data for physician interpretation, and assisting with procedures like amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.

Interaction involves escorting patients, explaining complex procedures, ensuring consent, and providing reassurance for comfort and safety. Documentation is key, with accurate recording of history, findings, measurements, and preliminary reports reviewed with physicians. Compliance with protocols, OSHA standards, and equipment maintenance supports operational excellence.

Team rotation covers absences at other locations, fostering adaptability. Continuous education credits maintain accreditation, while inventory and laundry management ensure smooth clinic function. This role supports diagnostic accuracy and patient satisfaction in a specialized Maternal Fetal Medicine environment.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited sonography program with a degree in ultrasonography or equivalent
  • At least two years in Allied Health Educational Program and one year on-the-job training in ultrasonography
  • Maintain or eligible for certification as an American Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS)
  • ARDMS OB/GYN or Fetal Echo (FE) certified or eligible to obtain within 12 months of hire
  • Provide evidence of continuing education credits to fulfill accreditation requirements
  • NT experience or certification
  • Follow accredited laboratory protocols for two-dimensional images, color flow, Doppler, and m-mode

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed fetal anatomical surveys, including twins and triplets, acquiring anatomical, pathological, and/or physiological data for physician interpretation
  • Assist physicians with procedures such as amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling
  • Accurately document exam findings, measurements, images, and procedural details in ultrasound reporting and image archiving systems
  • Generate clear, comprehensive preliminary reports for interpreting physician review and final signature
  • Review completed studies with interpreting physicians to communicate findings and support diagnostic accuracy
  • Prepare patients for ultrasound examinations by verifying identity, reviewing history, and ensuring comfort and privacy
  • Explain complex procedures to patients and family, providing reassurance throughout the exam
  • Maintain ultrasound equipment operation, recognize malfunctions, and follow accredited laboratory protocols
