UMHC - Doral - Radiology has an exciting opportunity for an MRI Technologist Level 2 position. The incumbent is responsible for performing complex procedures in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) through the operations of the MRI equipment to obtain the highest quality of diagnostic images.
Independent judgment, ingenuity, and initiative are essential to identify and compensate for imaging artifacts and evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and scan parameters. The technologist obtains and examines the order for an MRI scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition, and any other special notes or comments.
This role involves performing MRI diagnostic studies with minimum to no supervision, as well as research exams as needed by the department. The technologist ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by the physician and notifies the supervisor of any discrepancies or contacts the physician’s office for correct orders if necessary.
As part of a dedicated radiology team, the technologist assists Radiologists with imaging procedures, starting IVs, injecting contrast, and interventional MRI procedures. The position offers the opportunity to work with advanced MRI equipment and contribute to high-quality patient care in a supportive academic medical environment.
Requirements
- Ability to integrate diagnostic, laboratory results, patient history, and medical records and adapt exams as necessary.
- Adheres to MRI protocols to maintain high-quality standards and consistently demonstrates complete competence in performing MRI scans as ordered.
- Ability to position patients in the required anatomical position using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary.
- Maintains proper aseptic technique utilizing universal precaution guidelines (handwashing, gloves, gown, mask, eye protection, and equipment disinfection).
- Evaluates MRI scans for technical quality and collates processed/post-processed images in a specific sequence to be archived to PACS.
- Charges procedures and supplies in UChart/Radiant and dispenses oral contrast to patients for MRI scans.
- Loads and operates power injectors for contrast media administration.
- Applies physical age-specific and/or developmental care needs of patients.
Responsibilities
- Obtains and examines the order for an MRI scan to be aware of information such as procedures requested, patient’s condition, and any other special notes or comments.
- Performs MRI diagnostic studies with minimum to no supervision and performs research exams as needed by the department.
- Ensures that orders are appropriate to the type of exam recommended by the physician and notifies supervisor of any discrepancies.
- Identifies patient service requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients.
- Identifies patients by checking their name and date of birth on the electronic medical record and the patient’s wristband.
- Obtains necessary MR procedure-related information from patients or their companions and educates/informs patients as needed.
- Performs complex specialized tasks associated with the operation of MRI scanners and related equipment in accordance with prescribed safety procedures under the direction/supervision of a Radiologist.
- Assists Radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IVs, injecting contrast, and interventional MRI procedures as applicable.
