About this role
The CT Technologist I is responsible for operating CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and adherence to established protocols. Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to patient-centered care are essential for success.
This role involves preparing and positioning patients for CT procedures, using appropriate immobilization techniques, and performing point-of-care creatinine testing when required. The technologist also administers contrast media, monitors for adverse reactions, and explains procedures to alleviate patient fear and anxiety.
The CT Technologist collaborates with radiologists and healthcare team members to ensure accurate and timely diagnostic results. They assist with interventional CT procedures such as biopsies and respond to emergency situations, including contrast reactions, in accordance with facility protocols.
The technologist reviews images for technical accuracy, documents patient clinical history, and maintains equipment through regular quality control checks. This position provides the opportunity to work in an acute care hospital environment with advanced imaging technology while adhering to safety and infection control guidelines.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of clinical experience acquired through an accredited radiologic sciences program.
- Proficiency in operating CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.
- Ability to ensure patient safety and comfort while adhering to established protocols.
- Skills in preparing and positioning patients for CT scans, including use of safety lifts.
- Competence in maintaining CT equipment and ensuring proper functioning.
- Knowledge of aseptic, surgical, and radiologic techniques.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and deliver accurate results under minimal supervision.
Responsibilities
- Operate CT equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images in compliance with departmental protocols.
- Prepare and position patients appropriately for CT procedures using suitable immobilization techniques.
- Ensure accurate patient identification, verify physician orders, and screen for contraindications.
- Perform point-of-care creatinine testing and calculate GFR for contrast studies.
- Administer contrast media as ordered, monitor for adverse reactions, and respond appropriately.
- Explain procedures to patients to alleviate fear and provide instructions during and after exams.
- Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare team members to ensure accurate and timely patient-centered care.
- Maintain CT equipment, perform quality control checks, and report malfunctions promptly.
