About this role

This position performs diagnostic ultrasound exams which aid radiologists and providers in diagnosis and treatment. It also assists providers in ultrasound-guided procedures and provides direct patient care.
Staff verify and enter patient demographics, provide accurate patient education, and perform ultrasound examinations tailored to findings and likely diagnosis. They update patient logs, submit billing, and ensure equipment operation while coordinating maintenance. Physicians receive assistance with invasive procedures.

Requirements
- Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system (within 30 days of hire)
- Current certification as a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer with an Abdomen specialty (RDMS-AB) through ARDMS, or RDMS-OB/GYN, or ARRT Registration for Sonography (S)
- Ability to perform the essential functions as outlined
- Ability to provide care to the population served
- Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and ability to assess patient status
- Demonstrate human relations and effective communication skills
- ARRT registration as a Radiologic Technologist (R.T.) (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Ensure the appropriate exam is performed based on physician's orders and patient history
- Verify and enter/select patient demographics
- Provide accurate and consistent patient education and explanation of exam
- Perform ultrasound examinations, tailoring exams based upon findings and most likely diagnosis
- Update patient logs and submit billing
- Ensure operation of equipment and coordinate necessary maintenance
- Assist with training of student sonographers, residents, and fellows
- Assist physicians with invasive procedures
