As an MRI Technologist at Duke University Hospital, you will perform complex and specialized technical tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets within a top-ranked academic medical center.

Your day-to-day involves screening patients for MR safety, assisting radiologists with procedure protocoling, and administering contrast media per protocol. You will evaluate MR scans for technical quality, coordinate patient scheduling and flow across multiple MR sites, and ensure meticulous records are maintained in the EHR system.

You will work within a collaborative environment that includes radiologists, physicists, and a supportive team of fellow technologists. There is a strong emphasis on mentorship and education, as you will provide training for student technologists, new physicians, and help orient new team members to the department.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform a variety of complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets.
  • Proficiency in screening patients for MR safety and evaluating MR scans for technical quality.
  • Experience with starting IVs and administering contrast media.
  • Knowledge of the Image Archival System and ability to charge MR procedures and supplies in EHR.
  • Ability to coordinate scheduling and patient flow involving multiple MR sites.
  • Capability to assist radiologists with procedure protocoling and performance.
  • Experience in providing education and training for student technologists and new physicians.
  • Willingness to participate in developing new protocols and assist with research imaging for the Duke Health System.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex, specialized, and technical tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets.
  • Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance and position patients using immobilization and protective equipment.
  • Start IVs and administer contrast media as directed and per protocol.
  • Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images, and label sequences of acquisition appropriately.
  • Coordinate scheduling and patient flow involving multiple MR sites.
  • Assist radiologists and physicists in developing new protocols and MR imaging techniques unique to DUHS.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in over 100 MR protocols and teach correct application to new technologists, physicians, and researchers.
  • Provide education and training for student technologists and orientation for new technologists.
