The Cardiac Sonographer performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies, including two-dimensional, M-Mode, Doppler, and vascular ultrasound.
The Cardiac Sonographer provides applicable data regarding cardiac anatomy and hemodynamics to assist physicians in diagnosing heart or vascular abnormalities. Day-to-day involves operating equipment for adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasound examinations using correct parameters based on patient age and diagnosis. This includes 2D, Doppler, and color Doppler techniques. Procedures demonstrate proper techniques and documentation, selecting correct images for PACS system.
Obtains and records pertinent clinical information prior to exams, ensuring adequate history correlates with ultrasound findings. Correctly identifies patients using two identifiers and verifies image transfer to PACS. Works towards proficiency in modalities like stress echocardiograms, carotid duplex, and lower extremity venous duplex.
Throughout it all, focus remains on making a difference in the health of patients, loved ones, and community. Department is Noninvasive Cardiology with variable 10-hour shifts. Not benefits eligible.
Requirements
- BLS certification
- Must be ARDMS or CCI eligible
- Successful completion from a formal sonography program (minimum 18-month program)
- Eligible for employment before completing formal sonography program, subject to approval
- Preferred: Clinical experience gained during a formal cardiac or vascular educational program
- Working towards proficiency in adult echocardiography, stress echocardiograms, and treadmill stress tests
- Working towards proficiency in carotid duplex ultrasound, lower extremity venous duplex, and arterial duplex
Responsibilities
- Operates all equipment to perform adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasound examinations using correct parameters based on patient age and diagnosis, including 2D, Doppler and color Doppler
- Performs cardiovascular ultrasound procedures and demonstrates proper techniques and documentation, selecting correct images for acquisition and sending to PACS system
- Obtains and records all pertinent clinical information prior to exam and ensures adequate clinical history correlates with ultrasound exam
- Correctly identifies patient using two patient identifiers and selects correct imaging study from modality work list
- Verifies accurate transfer of images into PACS prior to completing exam in Health Information System
- Generates preliminary reports for echocardiography and vascular ultrasound
