About this role

This position supports Mercy's philosophy of patient centered care by performing interpretive, patient care and technical functions to ensure proper radiological diagnosis of patients under the direction of the department manager. As the lead, you will serve as an expert resource for all front-line staff and precept new employees and students.

Demonstrates competence in performing diagnostic radiographic examinations using fixed, portable, C-arm, and O-arm equipment across Radiology and additional locations. Works in Surgery as a radiographer and participates in the OR call rotation to support surgical imaging needs. You will review radiographic images for technique, positioning, and image quality, repeating poor quality images as needed.

Collaborates with the supervisor to assist with oversight of staffing, resources, and training for assigned areas. Communicates with School of Radiology faculty on student progress and attends educational programs to maintain current knowledge. You will also keep the supervisor aware of staffing issues and introduce new processes into the department.

This role offers the opportunity to take on additional responsibilities including annual lead vest checks, creating and maintaining the OR call schedule, and entering daily OR XR orders. You will participate in student and employee annual evaluations, providing constructive feedback. The position is Monday through Friday starting at 7am until 3:30pm with rotating call.

Requirements

  • Current ARRT certification in Radiography (R).
  • State of Iowa radiography licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Proficiency in using C-arm and O-arm imaging equipment.
  • Working knowledge of RIS, PACS, and computer software such as Workday.
  • Demonstrated competence in performing diagnostic radiographic examinations.
  • Ability to take on-call duties and work effectively in a surgical setting.
  • Strong attention to detail for image quality, patient identification, and clinical history review.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures accurate communication of clinically relevant information with patients, families, and co-workers at hand-offs and other times as needed.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing diagnostic radiographic examinations using fixed, portable, C-arm, and O-arm equipment across Radiology and additional locations.
  • Works in Surgery as a radiographer and participates in the OR call rotation, sharing on-call responsibilities with other OR radiographers.
  • Precepts and orients students and new staff, serving as an expert resource for clinical or technical questions.
  • Reviews radiographic images for technique, positioning, laterality, patient demographics and image quality, repeating images of poor quality.
  • Assists supervisor with oversight of staffing, resources, and training for the areas in which they work.
  • Maintains current knowledge of School of Radiology policies, procedures, and student progress.
  • Participates in student and employee annual evaluations, providing constructive feedback to ensure reviews are done on time.
