About this role

The MRI Technologist operates specialized Esaote O-Scan 0.3T extremity MRI equipment to produce diagnostic images. This role ensures safe patient care and accurate image acquisition in accordance with New York State Department of Health requirements and manufacturer protocols.

Day-to-day responsibilities include performing MRI examinations, conducting patient identification and MRI safety screening, and positioning patients for optimal imaging. The technologist monitors patients, enforces 5-Gauss line restrictions, and maintains safety across all MRI zones.

The technologist collaborates with the Supervising/Interpreting Radiologist and supports teaching demonstrations for students observing MRI workflows. Participation in staff meetings, MRI safety training updates, and Department of Health inspections is expected.

This position offers opportunities for professional development through required in-services and ongoing MRI safety training. The role is based in New York City and involves working in an outpatient or academic clinic setting with a focus on extremity MRI.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Radiologic Technology or MRI Technologist program
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification in radiology and magnetic resonance imaging (RT-R and RT-MR)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Completion of FCNY MRI Safety Training Levels 1 & 2
  • One year experience in Diagnostic Imaging
  • Proficient in EMR, RIS, and PACS modality software
  • NYS DOH IV injection license

Responsibilities

  • Perform MRI imaging procedures using the Esaote O-Scan 0.3T extremity MRI scanner
  • Conduct patient identification, MRI safety screening, and exam preparation
  • Position patients and select appropriate imaging protocols
  • Monitor patients, maintain safety in all MRI zones, and enforce 5-Gauss line restrictions
  • Complete documentation, upload images to PACS, and maintain MRI logs
  • Perform and record daily QC and report equipment concerns
  • Communicate patient concerns, abnormal findings during scanning, and safety issues immediately
