About this role

As a Registered Sonographer, you will utilize high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to produce and evaluate ultrasound images that physicians use to render medical diagnoses.

In this role, you will perform all duties of a radiographer as required, maintaining clinical competency in both Ultrasound and Radiography. You will select appropriate transducers, set initial power output and gain for patient size and age, and recognize differences in normal and abnormal tissue structures to ensure accurate imaging.

You will work within a collaborative team that values ethical business practices and adherence to corporate compliance and integrity guidelines. The department maintains full compliance with ACR certification requirements for ultrasound facilities, and you will assist in developing and maintaining the ultrasound procedure manual.

This position offers the opportunity to extend standard imaging protocols based on patient history or initial sonographic findings, and to assist in cyst aspiration, fluid aspiration, and biopsy procedures. You will consistently provide the best images possible within the limitations of available resources and patient clinical status.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform all duties of a radiographer as required
  • Maintains own clinical competency in Ultrasound and Radiography
  • Knowledge of proper transducer selection for the study being performed
  • Ability to recognize examination findings that may require an immediate clinical response and notify the interpreting physician
  • Skill in accurately entering patient demographics into instrument memory
  • Ability to employ professional judgment and discretion to protect patient rights and perform within scope of practice
  • Knowledge of infection control practices, including good hand washing technique and appropriate use of standard precautions
  • Ability to document equipment performance service, maintenance, and configuration changes

Responsibilities

  • Utilize high frequency sound waves and other diagnostic techniques to produce and evaluate ultrasound images and related data
  • Select appropriate transducers and set initial power output and gain for patient size and age
  • Recognize differences in normal and abnormal tissue structures and extend standard imaging protocols as required
  • Obtain and evaluate pertinent patient history and physical findings to affect the sonographic examination
  • Transfer images to hard copy or PACS system as appropriate
  • Assist in cyst aspiration, fluid aspiration, and biopsy procedures
  • Maintain clinical records and adhere to infection control and standard precautions
  • Assist in maintaining the section in full compliance with ACR certification requirements for ultrasound facilities
