The Cardiac Sonographer performs complete non-invasive transthoracic echocardiographic studies including two-dimensional M-Mode Doppler and vascular ultrasound. The role supplies cardiac anatomy and hemodynamic data to assist physicians in diagnosing heart or vascular abnormalities.
Work occurs in the Noninvasive Cardiology department on variable ten-hour shifts. The sonographer operates all equipment for adult echocardiography and vascular examinations while selecting correct imaging parameters based on patient age and diagnosis.
Staff obtain clinical history prior to each exam and generate preliminary reports. They work toward proficiency across adult echocardiography stress echocardiograms carotid duplex and multiple vascular ultrasound modalities.
Requirements
- Current BLS certification required.
- Must be ARDMS or CCI eligible.
- Successful completion from a formal sonography program (minimum 18-month program) required.
- Working toward proficiency in adult echocardiography, stress echocardiograms, carotid duplex ultrasound, lower extremity arterial and venous duplex, and abdominal aorta screening.
Responsibilities
- Operates all equipment to perform adult echocardiography and vascular ultrasound examinations using correct parameters based on patient age and diagnosis.
- Performs cardiovascular ultrasound procedures and consistently demonstrates proper techniques including selecting correct images for acquisition and sending to PACS.
- Obtains and records all pertinent clinical information prior to exam and ensures an adequate clinical history is available to correlate with the study.
- Correctly identifies patient using two patient identifiers and verifies accurate transfer of images into PACS before completing the exam.
- Generates preliminary reports for echocardiography and vascular ultrasound examinations.
