About this role
The Diagnostic Medical Sonographer utilizes high frequency sound waves along with color and spectral Doppler ultrasound to assist in the diagnosis of a variety of conditions and diseases. The sonographer produces dynamic and static visual images of internal structures and analyzes hemodynamics of vasculature. Findings are communicated to the interpreting radiologist during weekday shifts: Mon., Wed., Thurs., Fri. 7am-5:30pm.
Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations using cognitive skills to identify and document findings. Adapts exams to anatomical, pathological, and diagnostic information with independent judgment to differentiate normal from pathologic structures. Coordinates examinations efficiently to minimize patient hospital stay while ensuring safety and comfort.
Operates a wide variety of imaging equipment safely and maintains its working order with daily and weekly QC. Interacts with physicians, technical staff, and ancillary personnel for quality patient care. Maintains cleanliness, supply levels, and follows high level disinfection policy in rotational areas.
Introduces self to patients, uses two identifiers, explains procedures, and answers questions. Provides instruction to sonography technical students, medical students, and residents on exams and equipment. Completes mandatory educational assignments and assists supervisor with divisional paperwork as needed.
Requirements
- High School Graduate
- Graduate of a formal Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program which meets requirements by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in specialty ABD or OB/GYN within 90 days
- RVT credentials within six months from date in position
- Ability to perform professional, clinical and technical competencies of the assigned unit
- 1 or more years experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer/Vascular Technologist with RDMS and RVT credentials (preferred)
Responsibilities
- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations using cognitive sonographic skills to identify, document, and adapt examinations
- Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients
- Introduces self to patient, properly identifies patient utilizing two identifiers, explains the sonographic examination and answers questions
- Selects and operates a wide variety of imaging equipment in an efficient and safe manner
- Maintains working order of the equipment and completes daily and weekly QC; reports malfunctions to supervisor
- Interacts with physicians and other technical staff to provide quality, safe and efficient care
- Maintains cleanliness and supply par levels of all rotational areas and utilizes high level disinfection according to policy
- Provides instruction to sonography technical students, medical students and residents regarding sonography exams and equipment
